In Late 2006, a partnership between Hosanna Industries and several East End houses of faith emerged with the goal of rehabilitating up to eight homes during the summer of 2007.  The hope is to assist several families from the East End neighborhood to become first-time homeowners.

Partners in this East End Blitz include Hosanna Industries, East End Capital, East End Cooperative Ministry, East Liberty Development Inc., East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Fourth Presbyterian Church, Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, The Open Door, Third Presbyterian Church, The Union Project, and Valley View Presbyterian Church.

Congregations are currently working on sponsoring clients for this program, who will work with representatives from Hosanna Industries and a team from the East End Blitz partnership in applying for possible home ownership.  A first time homeowner is defined as someone who has not owned a home within the past three years and/or someone who has been displaced from their home, as in a divorce.  It is the goal of this partnership that one unit be designated for a household with a “physical disability” and one designated a household with a “special need”, e.g. someone in the household who is mentally disabled, recovering from physical abuse, drug/alcohol abuse, or diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

The tentative timetable for this project is to identify possible rehab sites by early 2007 while at the same time begin screening applicants for homeownership.  By March 2007, property acquisition will be finalized as well as home mortgages arranged.  Volunteer recruitment and planning will take place throughout the spring months, with the actual “Blitz rehab” work scheduled for June-August 2007.
